Nine Months

When a pregnancy comes to term
There is a sigh
Of joyful relief
At the baby’s first cry

All Kashmir’s cries, however
Fall on deaf ears
Its state is one
Pregnant with foreboding

The powers that be say
That all will be well soon
That they have won
The war on terror

But in the battle for
Hearts and Minds
They may well find that
Kashmir is impregnable
