How does one adjudicate on
Long-ago injustices?
Do two wrongs
(Widely separated in time)
Make a right?
An umpire must be neutral
But umpires are human too
And so, we got third-country umpires
For cricket matches
But, today, we wait
With bated breath
For the Umpire to respond to Howzat
To raise his finger
To pronounce judgement
And pray to the
Supreme Umpire in the Sky
That come what may
Our battered, bruised, beleaguered country
Survives the judgement
